After a defeat last week to Congresbury putting the final nail in the coffin of our promotion chances, we made three changes from the side. Charlie Brain was dropped. Coming back was myself, Covid JR and Hero Munden. It was a good day to win the toss and we decided to have a bat first. Myself and Munds saw the shine off the new ball before watching the highlight of the day, and one of the best innings of the season. PK went through the gears as he punished anything short. Watching the highlights there is probably 10/15 strokes which could have been described as ‘shot of the day’. He finished up with a mammoth 168, the highest individual score in the league so far this season and was ably supported by Josh Whitemore with 73. Josh deserved a hundred, and PK a double. This resulted in a score of 363/8, the fourth time we have passed 300 this year.
With the ball we were disciplined at the start and exceptional in the field. Chris Bolton took a brilliant catch at point, with JR getting back amongst the wickets whilst battling with fitness. Beefan Maule was also a star in the field with a catch and a run out. PK proved once again he can do it all finishing with 4/21 to go along with his big hundred. It resulted in a win by over 200, and a great evening where we got to witness Callum ‘million beers’ Westbrook do his five halves after his maiden century.
Overall a brilliant weekend for the team, as all eleven who played Saturday came up and supported the Sunday sixes tournament. This shows that the club is going in the right direction – I bet plenty of other clubs playing at our level would not see the same commitment. For that I would like to thank you all. Saturday we play OBWs away in the last game of the season, lets hope the rain stays away and we can get a win to finish in 3rd place.
