I got a bit of stick Saturday for not doing a match report vs Knowle earlier on in the year. This was justified, these reports should reflect whether we win or lose, unfortunately on that day we got a good hiding thanks to a brilliant hundred.
This week I am not going to write too much about the game, just the performance of James Riley. To take 7/20 from 10 overs is ridiculous. James has been the also-ran nearly-man. But on Saturday he was everything to our winning effort. We put on a good partnership of 28 runs for the last wicket (the difference between winning and losing), before he removed 7 of the first 8 Knowle batters. Some great catches were taken, epitomised by the one he took off his own bowling. A very proud moment for James, who claims the best figures ever for Brislington First XI during the play cricket era. The only era that counts. James told CMM Harrison Newman that his target wickets for the season was 25, he got to 20 on Saturday, and hopefully there will be many more to come.
Well done JR, well done team. Our last loss was Keynsham away and as a side we have had some great results and some great performances. Hopefully a win this week vs Keynsham at home could take us into a promotion challenge for the last 7 games.
