Win again for the Ladies as they remain unbeaten as Charlie takes 4fer

On Sunday the women’s hardball team played their away fixture against Thornbury, hoping to maintain their unbeaten record of the year. This was the third womens hardball game of the week and some of us (me!) were very tired.

With some rain in the air I won the toss and bowled first. Annie took the ball and got us off to a great start with a wicket in her first over. I followed with the second over and also took a wicket. We continued and I took two more wickets to end a successful 4 overs on top.
Emily (2-12) took over from me, bowling her leg spin with great flight and control. Amanda (0-16) joined her at the other end, and together built up pressure on the batters who struggled to get runs away.
We fielded well on a tricky outfield full of lumps and bumps, the pressure leading to great run outs from Lou and Ursula.
Consistent Kay (1-6) took over from Emily, with Annie (1-22) and myself (4-10) finishing up our overs from the other end. Kay took the last wicket with a nice diving catch (if I do say so myself) at mid wicket, leaving us 68 to win.

Jo and Lou opened up the batting and gave us a really good start, taking us to 50 without the loss of wicket. With a high number of wides, it was tricky to find any rhythm, but Jo in particular managed to find gaps nicely to hit some lovely boundaries in her 24. Lou fell for 12 when the score was on 53, which caused a mini collapse, including the wicket of Jo, but Ellen and Amanda took us over the line with a four to give us a 6 wicket win in 13 overs, and maintain our unbeaten record.

Bowlers once again did a great job, and a really nice opening partnership gave us the base to take us over the line. We keep our spot at top of the league with 5 games to go.
