Nightingale’s Match report Briz v Bath Wanderers - North Division League: Sunday 23rd June.

After a terrific warm up led by the worlds best coach - our Frazer, the team felt switched on & ready to go into battle with the mighty
Bath ‘Could the magical misty moistness glide us to glory again….’??
Captain’s Kay & Amanda, kept with our winning formula of batting first. The opening honours went to Jo & Louise. They opened well,
with Louise scoring her 16 best runs! Straight, slow & spin bowling from excellent Bath players was hard to get away at times. 5
wickets went. A great partnership with Katie and Hannah saw us reach 104 off 20 overs. Katie on a solid 14 (not out) & Hannah
matching her previous best score of 31 (not out)
The changeover came with a confidence-boosting pep talk from our Fraz & a lucky rub of the Unicorn ? out we went determined
to do our very best against Bath - a club to be admired, with 10 years developing girls & women's cricket ? us, in our 4th proper
hardball league game.
Our girl Api, first into bowl, gave the opposition a show of her speed, strength & accuracy. Marsha, brave as ever working wicketing
wonders to scoop up wet, fast balls.
Bath batted well, choosing the right ball to run on, scoring boundaries consistently, totting up their run rate (with a little help from
our bowling errors) Our Captain Kay pinned back their run rate & a wicket each for Api, Hannah & Katie.
Frustration creeping in, a lull in fielding success, we needed a magical moment - something just to maybe turn the game. Bath at
94 plenty of overs left, Kay & Amanda told us we had to bowl them out if we were going to win the game.
Step up to the plate Lara Wakefield - WICKET! Bails went flying!
Followed by a terrific catch from Api Aji!
I felt the tide turning…..
We tightened up the field, encircling the batters - no mistakes now ladies.
Bath on 99, needing 6 runs to win
Api takes up the ball for her final over. I sensed a wicket coming.
In what can only be described as one of the most sensational & utterly brilliant moments I’ve seen in sport -
Api, composed, determined & in total control delivers a maiden over, taking not 1, not 2 but 3 WICKETS!!!
3 terrific times the bails went flying!! WOW WOW WOW Api on fire! ???
In comes their last Batter, still plenty of balls to come.
Hannah is next, bowling her last over - BAM! WICKET with her first ball! The Burgin strikes again. The bails go flying!!
The field erupts! We are all delirious, jumping for joy & hugging the life out of these girls. Marsha, ever the focused professional
asks ‘whats going on’?? She’d not taken her eyes off the ball to see the scoreboard….
Bath 99 all OUT
Brislington 104 -5 WIN by 5 runs
What a moment.
Well, well, well says our No.1 Umpire Mr John Noel as he leaves the wicket alongside Bath’s Umpire.
Well, well, well indeed.
