Briz do a smash n' grab at Whitehall Playing Fields!

Round two and after a loss to Pak Bristolians in the Cup the previous week we're back to try and level the score in the league.

Batting in the gloom the previous week we're keen to get the game under way early so skipper Sam Sharp grabs the bull by the horns and gets the toss done in double quick time....they win and decide to bat.

Pak Bristolians openers Tabraiz and Farooq negotiate the first 6 overs from the Sethmeister and Loz taking cheeky singles to the Briz inner ring as they grow in confidence. Max is next on and it's he who makes the first breakthrough removing Farooq with a fuller ball swinging from middle to off stump and taking the batman's inside edge onto the stumps! It's a wicket maiden as well. Pak B 43 for 1 after 9 overs.

Four overs later and HP puts some sauce on it and gets one past the bat and no.3 Butt is smartly stumped by Sammy Harris. Pak B 60 for 2 after 13 overs. It's spin to win and Joe enters the attack bamboozling new bat Warraich with his 57 varieties of leg spin bowling a maiden in the process.

Pak B sense they need to get on with it to post a competitive score and both batters start to use their feet to the spinners picking up 1's and 2's. Captain Sharpie who's deployed and manoeuvred his troops with growing confidence decides to roll out his Howitzer (Loz) for the final over. Bowling with good pace it's actually a beauty of a slower ball that cleans up Warraich. The final ball is creamed back low to Loz from the new batsman and he does well to deflect the ball and prevent a certain boundary.

Pak B finish on 105 for 3 with opener Tabraiz 42 not out. Loz clearly in pain from his valiant last ball fielding heroics departs to 'get some ice on it' and receive some words of comfort and benevolence from Dad.....ok that's a lie, it was more like 'why didn't you catch it' and 'get on with it ya big jessie'.

Briz's reply is immediately dealt a blow when Robbie is clean bowled 4th ball of the first over by left arm seamer Riaz. Briz 1 for 1. Sharpie's in at 3 and along with Ethan the score moves onto 15 for 1 after 3 overs. Alas, Sharpie's middle stump is dislodged by fellow opening bowler Abbias and Briz are 17 for 2 at the end of the fourth with new bat Luke 'Hollywood' now at the crease.

With runs starting to dry up Ethan is out top edging to cover in an attempt to get the scoreboard moving. With the score on 29 for 3 after 8 overs it's decided to throw on Loz with the clear licence to cut loose and 'use that bottom hand son'! He doesn't disappoint dispatching the ball to all parts of Whitehall, slam dunkin' the ball over the mid wicket boundary for consecutive sixes! In the midst of that Luke is caught napping (away with the fairies!) and is run out bringing Harrison to the wicket.

With Loz on 47 and his team mates frantically calculating how best he should get to his 50 (rules say he has to retire at 50), things are taken out out of his hands when his furniture is rearranged by bowler Farooq, 3 short of what would have been a well deserved 50.

Briz are 93 for 5 after 16 overs needing 13 runs from 4 overs to snatch the win. All bets are off though as a flurry of wickets tip the balance back to opposition. Harrison, Seth and Sam Harris all departing in quick succession. Joe and Max take up the fight with 'IPL Joe' producing an audacious reverse ramp dil scoop before he to departs lbw to the bowling of top Pak B bowler Riaz.

And then there were only two. Otto makes his way out to the middle with Briz still needing 7 runs for what's now seeming like an unlikely victory. Looking like a juvenile Gandalf, he swishes his willow wand as if deflecting the evil forces of Lord Sauron although in this case it's 5 balls from Riaz. Luckily each one fails to find it's target with his last ball seemingly removing a lick of varnish from Otto's off stump without dislodging the bails!

Six balls left and still needing 7 to win it's all on Max. They take a 2 and in the confusion and tension amongst the onlookers Mark Kingston announces that there's just one ball to go.....cue his team mates imploring Max to hit a four to tie the game. Cometh the hour cometh the man and he duly smears it through extra cover for a glorious 4!

It's a TIE, but hold on umpire Crispy is having none of it, there's still a ball to be bowled. The field come in to stop the single but to no avail as Maximilian punches it through the cordon for another boundary to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat!!

Cue scenes of wild delirium from the Briz faithful and a victory boogaloo from umpire Crispy. The players shake hands and depart the field of play. Happy Days!
